Je suis née le 27 septembre 1984 dans l'Ontario au Canada. Dès mon adolescence, je commence à écrire des chansons. j'ai chanté dans des chorales et j'apprend a joué de la guitare. A 16 ans, je décroche un contrat avec Arista après avoir été remarquée par Antonio "L.A." Reid. Installée à New York que je remerci au passage, je m'entoure de compositeurs et de producteurs. Je part alors à Los Angeles et, avec l'aide du producteur Clif Magness (Céline Dion, Sheena Easton...), et là je sort mon premier album Let Go en 2002. Les singles Complicated et Sk8er Boi m'assurent un succès mondial. En 2004, je reviens avec Under My Skin. En 2006, je me mari avec Deryck Whibley, leader de Sum 41. La même année, je participe à la BOF Eragon. En 2007, je signe un nouvel opus baptisé The Best Damn Thing. Suit un DVD live enregistré à Toronto (Canada).
